Requirements

To hire an Oxygen Concentrator from The Oxygenstore the user must be under medical supervision and have approval from their Doctor or GP to travel. In many instances, you will already have a Fit to Fly Test (also called a Hypoxic Challenge test) or a Hypoxia Altitude Simulation Test (HAST) completed by your Respiratory Nurse.

We will need to know what flow rate your doctor or GP has prescribed (how many LPM), and we will also need to ascertain whether you require a constant flow of oxygen, or whether you are suitable for a Pulse Dose Oxygen Concentrator.

If you intend to use the Oxygen Concentrator for a flight, we will ask how long the flight is. We will then use this information along with your prescribed flow setting to calculate how many batteries you will need for your flight. In order to allow for any delays or hold-ups, airlines require you to have battery life for a minimum of 150% of your actual flight time.

Some airlines only allow one Portable Oxygen Concentrator aboard each flight, so it’s important that you let them know in advance as soon as possible that you’ll be travelling with Oxygen.

Your airline will also need to know what type of Portable Oxygen Concentrator you are travelling with to ensure that it is FAA approved. This should be a straightforward process as all of the portable machines and batteries we rent are approved by the FAA for air travel.

To comply with this requirement the Portable Oxygen Concentrator must,post May 2016 meet the FAA POC acceptance criteriabelow;

(1) Acceptance Criteria for Portable Oxygen Concentrators | Federal Aviation Administration (faa.gov)

OR

(2) The Airline may also ask you to confirm the Make and Model of the Concentrator you intend to fly with to ensure that its on the preapproved FAA listSFAR 106and also confirm that the POClithium batteries do not exceed 100 Wh per battery.

Delivery

We usually (except in Emergencies) deliver your Rental Oxygen concentrator to you at home at least 5-7 days before you are due to depart.

This early delivery ensures that you receive your machine in time for your holiday, allowing us time to rectify any issues if there is a problem with the delivery. This also allows you time to become familiar with the operation and settings of the concentrator before you travel and further allows you time to make sure that all batteries are fully charged prior to your departure.

We will also ask that the rental period extends 1-2 days over your arrival time back into the UK in order to accommodate any possible travel delays, and to give you time to unpack and relax without having to worry about returning the concentrator to us straight away.

Our standards

Before shipping out your concentrator, all equipment will be sterilised and thoroughly checked to ensure that it is fully operational and up to the highest of standards. We take the safety and hygiene of our concentrators very seriously.

We include new tubing, cannulas or masks with every concentrator. As well as this, all equipment is packed securely in a protective Peli case ready to arrive safely at your door.

If you encounter any issues with your machine whilst on your travels, we are committed to arranging a replacement machine within 24 hours wherever you are in the world (subject to times).

VAT Exemption

Zero rate VAT is available on all of our rental machines for eligible customers.
